Significantly the artwork on display will feature never-before-seen art by the renowned artist. Not to mention that this will be the first exhibition at Gagosian in New York featuring Takashi Murakami since 2014.To sum up, the Takashi Murakami show will take place at both the 976 and 980 Madison Avenue Gagosian galleries. The theme of the art show is bridging art in the digital and physical realms. To that end, these digital art-inspired physical works will go along with a virtual component. The 976 presentation will feature paintings and sculptures based on Takashi Murakami’s high-profile NFT collaboration with RTFKT, Clone X. On the other hand, one floor of the 980 Gagosian gallery will house paintings and sculptures based on Murakami’s other major NFT project to date, the Murakami.Flowers NFT collection.Lastly, another floor of the 980 gallery will showcase brand new paintings on circular canvases. These paintings draw on pottery from China’s Yuan dynasty, as well as Murakami’s childhood memories of fishing with his father.Another key point to note is the name of the art exhibition. In essence, An Arrow Through History is a reference to Murakami’s approach to his latest forays into NFTs. As his statement on the exhibition highlights:“Japanese culture originally came from the Eurasian continent, and my concept has been to go beyond from there into the metaverse, shooting through the history of art with a single arrow.” All in all, the Takashi Murakami Gagosian exhibition will be an exciting display of the artist’s prolific and distinct background in physical art.
