Unbeknown to most, one of the true pioneers of the NFT space represents not a simple PFP collection, nor some half-baked celebrity-endorsed vanity project, but the grand magnificence of the Austrian postal service. As such, it blazed an incredible trail back in 2019 with its groundbreaking physical postage stamps that unlocked a digital NFT twin for philatelists to salivate over. This blurred the lines between traditional stamp collecting and state of the art blockchain technology, while ushering in a brand-new generation of mail enthusiasts the world over.
Now, following three years of consistent non-fungible endeavours, they’re back with their most ambitious drop yet! Arriving on July 22 at 18:00 CET via the Ethereum blockchain, The Austrian Post will launch the Crypto Stamp Art collection Tokapi. A fine set of mail-themed digital assets paying homage to Austria’s infamous postage tokens of yesteryear.
“We think that it is possible for ordinary companies and products to choose to be extraordinary.” – Patricia Liebermann – Austrian Post
A Well Planned NFT Drop
Upon launch, philatelists and NFT collectors can purchase a superb mystery box from the Tokapi platform all without any crypto experience necessary. Each will be obtainable for a flat fee of €500 through a run of the mill credit card payment or instant transfer. Delving within, they will find four incredible NFTs of varying scarcity plus a highly original physical component. Each item is redesigned by high calibre artist, Primal Cypher and his Marvel-affiliated studio, Encode Graphics, and features Austria’s rarest of all stamp-based designs, The Mercury.
All in all, 2,500 mystery boxes will hit the market, containing four core rarities of Rose (58.96%), Blue (30%), Yellow (10%) and Red (1%), in addition to four highly unique and infinitely collectable 1 of 1 NFTs. Meanwhile, each pack comes with its own single claim physical item, featuring a special card that when broken in the middle, displays a fine artwork on one side, and a perfectly usable postage stamp on the other.
“Through our partnership with Austria Post we aim to draw the age old past time of stamp collecting into the blockchain era, and introduce it to a brand new generation of collectors.” – Daniel Lenikus – Tokapi CEO
This is certainly an exciting development for the time-honored hobby of stamp collecting, as it embraces the new era of philately.
