Disney has hired Ex-Apple manager Mark Bozon as they embrace the latest metaverse technology and plan for the future. The former executive spent 12 years in creative and gaming roles at the tech giant Apple. Recently, he was the games creative director for Apple Arcade, the company’s game subscription service. Now, Mark will lead the Disney Metaverse strategy going forward.
Ex-Apple manager to help Disney join the metaverse
As the new senior creative leader for cross-divisional Next Generation Storytelling initiatives at Disney, Mark Bozon is responsible for ensuring that Disney embraces all elements of the metaverse.
Disney sees the metaverse and Web3 as ‘The next generation of storytelling’. Mark Bozon and his team will work with multiple Disney departments to implement the Disney metaverse strategy.
In a tweet, Bozon said, “Here it goes: After 12 amazing years, I say goodbye to Apple. I’m headed to an absolute dream job & can’t wait to share more soon. Thank you to my coworkers and the incredibly talented devs that make the App Store & Arcade the success it is. It was an honour.”
It is important to remember that Disney also has twelve theme parks along with films, games, toys, and television. The new team will be looking at how they can use the next generation of tech, such as NFTs, to boost visitor enjoyment and engagement across the physical, digital and virtual reality spaces.
What’s more, they will hope to use metaverse technology to improve efficiency across the company.
The future of Disney
Disney has already had some great success with NFTs over the last year. Working exclusively with VeVe, a Web 3 native company Disney has released several NFT collections. These include Spiderman NFTs, The Mickey Mouse NFT collection, The Simpsons and a Marvel collection.
This is just the beginning of their entrance into the metaverse, and now it appears they are entirely on board with this next-gen technology.
Chief Executive Bob Chapek is one of the voices leading the metaverse revolution inside Disney. He has spoken openly about the metaverse and how Disney see it as the next step in its evolution.
He said, “To me, it’s a third dimension of the canvas that we let our creative people paint. And it’s going to take all the great things that we as a media company have with Disney+ and use that as a platform for the metaverse, but we have something that no one else has, and that’s the physical world, a world of our parks. And so, if the metaverse is the blending of the physical and the digital in one environment, who can do it better than Disney?”
The Metaverse themepark
Disney has always been at the forefront of innovation in storytelling, so this latest move into the metaverse is no surprise. However, many people are speculating on how they will use this technology in their twelve parks. Walt Disney World resort has an annual footfall of over 58 million people.
Significantly, this makes it the most visited resort in the world. If Disney can successfully use metaverse technology at the resort, it would be a huge step forward for worldwide adoption.
