In 2015, While going to the beach to take photos, the shadow of some people in a cafe in Basiskele, Kocaeli, caught my attention. As a result, I decided to wait for the sunset in order to emphasize the shadow effect. After a few shots, someone suddenly looked out a window providing another interesting frame. Tokyo Rain

I’ve been looking at this piece now since August last year. Initially I had written it off as a simple example of image making and wasn’t sure if it was something I would ever finish. I now believe Tokyo Rain represents somewhat of a breakthrough in my practice. While it isn’t set on the foundation of a long thought out concept – it is an unintentional, unvarnished reflection of where I was in that moment. At the end of 2021 I suffered major burn out with with my art and was unable to create anything for many, many months. This piece is one of the last things I made before hitting that wall. It has allowed me to view my work in a completely new light and I am so happy to have finally finished it.

DKleine began exploring blockchain technology in 2016. Initially blogging and then writing for marketing teams, he eventually joined the team at Cointelegraph. Through interactions in his writing career, DKleine encountered figures who introduced him to the world of cryptoart. He wrote about “Immutable Trash” for Cointelegraph Magazine and began his exploration of this new world as a writer turned artist. He now creates art and hosts the NFT-focused podcast, NFP with DKleine.

One of my first encounters with CryptoArt was an interview I conducted with ROBNESS when writing a piece for Cointelegraph called “Immutable Trash”. This story — and the liberating technology and ethos behind it — inspired me to pursue a career as an artist in the CryptoArt scene.
