If you’re a skating as well as a metaverse fan, you’re in for a treat! Skating legend Tony Hawk has just announced that he’s creating the metaverse’s biggest skatepark in The Sandbox. The legendary skateboarder is the latest celebrity entrepreneur to get involved in the metaverse. It’s safe to say that his project is one of the most innovative metaverse ventures yet!
Tony Hawk’s metaverse skatepark: What we know so far
The skatepark will launch in collaboration with the NFT platform Autograph on The Sandbox. It is set to span 36 parcels of LAND, making it the largest virtual skatepark in web3. In addition to the metaverse skatepark, Tony Hawk will also drop avatar NFTs that will serve as a nod to his outfit during the 1999 X Games.
When commenting about this partnership, Tony Hawk said: “I have been a fan of new technology all of my life, from the first video games and home computers with CGI capabilities. So I am fascinated by the metaverse, and excited to bring our culture into the virtual landscape of The Sandbox.”
This isn’t the first time the skating entrepreneur has dipped his toes in the virtual sphere. His “Tony Hawk Pro Skater” gaming series, which debuted in 1999, is one of the best-selling video game franchises of the early 2000s. So far, it has grossed over $1.4 billion. Therefore, it’s safe to say the legendary skateboarder knows a thing or two about making virtual ventures work!

Tony Hawk is a pioneer of vertical skateboarding and is now the owner of the skateboard company “Birdhouse.” Known for completing the first-documented “900” trick, Hawk has gone from strength to strength and is now a household name.
This isn’t his first web3 rodeo. Earlier this year, he dropped the Tony Hawk’s ‘The Last Trick Skateboard Collection’ on Autograph.
