There’s so much news coming from Meta, eh? And yes, we are here to deliver you another Meta-related portion of information, as the company is entering the digital wearables market.
Mark Zuckerberg’s most recent post on Facebook announces the creation of the brand-new web3 clothing store dubbed Meta Avatars Store. The news arrived during Instagram Live with Instagram’s vice president of fashion partnerships Eva Chen. For now, according to the chief executive, the exclusive wearables via the store will be available for buyers from selected regions, including the US, Canada, Thailand, and Mexico. The Meta Avatars Store will allow dressing up the users’ avatars in cool branded digital clothing.
The new VR store is launching on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger as soon as the last week of June. The exclusive wearables offered at the Meta Avatars Store’s VR spaces will include such brands as Balenciaga, Prada, and Thom Browne. While Zuckerberg didn’t announce the upcoming store’s pricing policy, it’s known that the free options for Meta avatars will still remain available.
To demonstrate the wearables to the public, Meta’s CEO and Instagram’s exec showed off their avatar in various clothing options. They also announced their plans to turn the store into an open marketplace where developers can create and sell clothing, as well as attract more big fashion brands to its virtual premise.
“...Digital goods will be an important way to express yourself in the metaverse and a big driver of the creative economy. I’m excited to add more brands and bring this to VR soon too,” Mark Zuckerberg says.
For now, it’s unclear when Meta is going to make the store available in other regions. Let’s wait until the grand opening to learn more.
