Has the NBA Top Shot community finally received some details on the long-awaited Crafting Feature? That’s what some collectors thought after a recent official tutorial video talking about the feature. Unfortunately for them, the video has turned out to be a mistake on Top Shot’s part! Might some collectors have made some NBA Top Shot trades based on bad information? Here are all the details of what went down.
What happened with the accidental video upload from NBA Top Shot Community?
To sum up, a tutorial detailing how to use NBA Top Shot’s new Crafting Feature went live yesterday, June 6th. However, the video came down shortly after. As a matter of fact, it was never meant to be posted in the first place.
Basically, the announcement came from the Twitter account @NBATSCommunity. To explain, this is the official Twitter account for the NBA Top Shot community. It posts about everything happening in the world of the popular NFT platform. Ironically, the account’s Twitter bio simply reads, “Leaking alpha responsibly”. Unfortunately, it looks like it has done just the opposite with this latest blunder.
The account notes in the tweet that all the specific information in the video is just placeholder info. This is a problem because people seeing the video may have thought that this information was an accurate sneak peek into Top Shot’s upcoming Crafting Feature. As a result, they may have rushed to make some trades, based on what the video said about how the Crafting Feature would work.
What is the “Crafting Feature” coming to Top Shot?
At this point, many people will be familiar with NBA Top Shot. For one thing, the popular NBA highlight NFTs are a major element of NFTs’ meteoric rise last year. With that said, it hasn’t always been smooth sailing for the Dapper Labs, NBA, and NBPA collaboration. While Top Shot has done major numbers since its launch, interest has waned slightly since its peak in late 2020/early 2021.
One of the sore points for the NBA Top Shot community in the past has been a lack of some kind of burn mechanism on the platform. In an official blog post back in March, Dapper Labs CEO Roham Gharegozlou included a mention of the NBA Top Shot’s upcoming Crafting Feature.
In that blog post, Rohan explains that the Crafting Feature would see collectors “permanently lock a number of Moments meeting given criteria in exchange for ultra-limited rewards”. That is to say, this feature would be the exact kind of mechanism that collectors have been asking for.
In any case, it appears that collectors will have to wait a little bit longer for some news on the NBA Top Shot Crafting Feature.
