Upcoming Drops: May 16-22


Let’s face it: The NFT space moves really fast. Considering how quickly things can change in the metaverse, a week in NFTs might as well be a month IRL.

Don’t get us wrong — the more people onboarded into the space, the merrier. But because of the constant influx of great art and ideas, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with all the news, launches, and general happenings.

Well, you can put the days of endless Twitter and Discord scrolling behind you, as we put together a weekly list of upcoming NFT drops you definitely don’t want to miss. Here’s what to look out for this week.

Archieverse: Eclipse

Why: The beloved 80-year-old Archie Comics franchise is gearing up to dive head-on into the NFT space. By leveraging blockchain tech, Archieverse hopes to empower fans to join a new, large-scale collector community that will offer NFT holders access to a wide variety of virtual and real-life experiences. Best of all? Collectors will be able to help author future series.

RŌHKI – Episode 1

What: 500 music NFTs

Why: Although little is currently known about RŌHKI, the project seems to be centered around creating and releasing dynamic music NFTs. The team behind the project recently completed the sale of the RŌHKI Genesis Key NFT collection, which sold out quite fast and has since had a series of ups and downs. Now, anonymous team behind the project is now set to release the first installment, or episode, of the developing new endeavor.

Alice in Cryptoland II

Why: Mark McKenna is a globally acclaimed American comic artist and Inkwell Hall of Fame resident. Now, he is returning to MakersPlace for part two of his Alice in Cryptoland series. Having worked on some of the most popular comic book franchises in existence — including X-Men, Spider-Man, Batman, The Justice League, and more — this latest offering from McKenna gives collectors the chance to own original, Alice in Wonderland-themed pieces from the celebrated artist.

Why: Lotus 7 is an imaginative audiovisual collection from multidisciplinary, internally-exhibited artist DOES. With this collection DOES captures the creation of his paper collage entitled “Lotus,” showing off the day-by-day creative process cut by cut and frame by frame.

Domingo X Sita

Why: World-renowned Spanish artist Domingo Zapata is partnering with designer, stylist, and techno DJ Sita Abellan on a series of 8,888 panda-themed NFTs. The collection will feature 50 hand-styled 1/1 pieces from Sita.

How to Kill a Wildflower

When: May 19 @ 5 p.m. ET

Where: Parrott.art

Why: “How to Kill a Wildflower” is a new personalized NFT endeavor from influential crypto-artist Parrott. Said to be his most focused, intentional, and most vulnerable collection to date, the project is centered around a wildflower representing innocence. The release of this latest collection will mark the first time Parrott has done an NFT drop via Voice.com.

The Migrant

Why: Award-winning multidisciplinary Nigerian artist Ken Nwadiogbu is set to make his Nifty Gateway debut with a 100-piece NFT collection that coincides with his physical solo show “A New Perspective.” Centered around Black migration, empathy, and ubuntu each piece will be sold with an accompanying personified cardboard box sculpture. A philanthropic endeavor at its core, 20% of the sale proceeds from The Migrant will help fund Five Cowries Initiative, a Nigerian NGO promoting art education as a tool to foster Critical Thinking.

The Journey Goes On

Who: Annibale Siconolfi (Inward)

Where: Nifty Gateway

Why: Annibale Siconolfi has continued to surprise the NFT community with his impossibly detailed futuristic cities and landscapes. With his latest NG drop, the talented artist will, for the first time, present a collection solely comprised of animations. The theme will, of course, line up with his usual style of exploring the line between nature and technology.
