The legendary jazz musician Thelonious Monk is releasing a collection of NFTs with the approval of his estate. Working in collaboration with well-known artist Javier Arrés, the collection of NFT artworks is inspired by the infamous ‘Underground’ album cover. The NFT project goes live on MakersPlace this week, on May 19th, at 3:30 PM PT.
Thelonious Monk’s NFT collection honours his important legacy
Thelonious Monk is one of the greatest Jazz musicians of all time and is a pioneer of modern Jazz and the bebop genre. He was a Grammy Award winning artist and is only one of five jazz artists to feature on the front of Time magazine. Furthermore, he is the second most recorded jazz arranger in music history after Duke Ellington.
Now, with the approval of his estate, including his son, the artist T.S Monk, there is an NFT collection to celebrate his extraordinary life. Javier Arrés is a world-famous motion and GIF artist. His focus for this NFT collection is exploring themes of revolution. Likewise, it pays tribute to Monk’s great legacy and ongoing impact in the world of Jazz.
“A city is something that you build. Javier has built a city around Thelonious that directly addresses Monk’s quest to develop a performative experience of Duke Ellington’s ‘Sophisticated Lady.’ Both creative endeavours blend to create a cohesive body of work, which can only be described as sophisticated,” says T.S. Monk.
Javier will provide his interpretation of Monk’s legacy and what the album cover means to him. The Thelonious Monk NFT collection also features a never before heard Thelonious Monk audio. This also includes a message from his son, T.S. Monk.
The NFT collection on MakersPlace includes –
- An auction of one 1/1 audiovisual artwork: “Theloniopolis.”
- One open edition audiovisual artwork, “Metro Monk.”
Finally, the Thelonious Monk NFT collection will ensure that this iconic musician lives forever on the blockchain. It will also honour his legacy and ensure that his music continues to uplift people worldwide.
