After inaugurating herself into the realm of NFTs back in March through the purchase of a Bored Ape, pop icon Madonna is now launching her own collection. To ensure all eyes remain transfixed on her artistic renderings, the material girl has consulted the expertise of notorious digital artist Beeple, where together, they’ve curated a three-video, NSFW NFT series titled ‘Mother of Creation’.
Each of the videos in the ‘Mother of Creation’ series begins with an explicit, close-up shot of a naked, CGI Madonna giving birth. To highlight the juxtaposition and rather inevitably of the natural process, each of the videos are set in an environment which contrasts with the miracle of giving birth, with the ‘Mother of Nature’ video NFT being set in a sterile research laboratory. The ‘Mother of Evolution’ video NFT being set within an apocalypse, and the ‘Mother of Technology’ video NFT offering a dark take on humanity’s relationship with technology.
The triptych of NFTs will drop via auction on SuperRare on May 11th, with bids (to be taken in ETH) starting as low as $1. The auction’s proceeds will be donated to three charities, The Voices of Children Foundation, The City of Joy, and Black Mama’s Bail Out, whilst Crypto platform MoonPay also will donate $100,000 to each charity as part of the launch.
In speaking about the project via video chat with her fellow artist, Madonna has this to say: “The opening of each video is essentially me giving birth. I’m doing what women have been doing since the beginning of time, which is giving birth. But on a more existential level, I’m giving birth to art, and creativity, and we would be lost without both”.
In addition, and whilst unveiling that they had been working on the project for exactly one year, Madonna and Beeple also highlighted the importance of going in a creative direction which focuses on pure emotional connection and utility, rather than ‘rampant speculation’ which is commonly seen within the NFT realm.
