Popular NFT marketplace OpenSea launches an Investigation after falling victim to a Discord hack. Reportedly, the attackers were promoting a scam within OpenSea’s Discord server.
OpenSea’s Recent Discord Hack
OpenSea tweeted on Friday, “We are currently investigating a potential vulnerability in our Discord, please do not click on any links in the Discord.”
Meanwhile, the support team has issued similar statements inside OpenSea’s Discord server. Furthermore, members also reported this hack within the specific channel in the OpenSea Discord server.
In fact, Serpent was the first to bring this OpenSea Discord hack to attention. Also, he shared screenshots of the Discord channel where the OpenSea bot seemingly posted links to a page named “yoytubenft.art”. The screenshot read, “YouTube is officially partnering with [OpenSea] to bring their community into the NFT space.”
Moreover, PeckShield security reported that hackers exploited OpenSea’s Discord server to promote a scam NFT mint. In addition, it posted screenshots of the same website, alerting people of a possible attack to steal their private keys.
It is yet not clear if there has been any user who fell victim to the attack. However, this is not the first time OpenSea users have been victims of an attack. OpenSea users lost about $1.7 million in a phishing attack earlier this year.
OpenSea Is Not Alone
Recently, the biggest NFT collection, Bored Ape Yacht Club, also fell victim to two social media hacks.
First, the BAYC discord server was compromised by a phishing attack. As a result, its governance token ApeCoin plummeted by more than 8%.
Later that same month, BAYC’s Instagram account was also compromised, resulting in many people losing their NFTs.
