Last month, Elon Musk posted a meme on Twitter that shows his political stance. Now, the creator of the meme is selling it on Opensea.
Elon Musk Tweets Meme and Creator Sells it as NFT
In October 2021, Elon Musk retweeted a meme that became an NFT. ‘Love in the time of Web3’, an image showing two lovers looking at Bitcoin and Ethereum prices, made a 28-year-old thousand dollars richer.
Now, another meme creator grabbed the opportunity to make his image an NFT when Elon retweeted it on April 28. An account called SwipeWright listed it on Opensea. According to the NFT description, he made the meme on August 6th, 2021 as it “documents the political journey he has taken while staying in the same place”. The description also showed the links to his original tweet last year and Elon’s tweet about it last month.
As of writing, the NFT is being auctioned with the highest bid of 1.3125 WETH or around $3,662.79.
Memes on Web3
The era of meme NFTs started its boom last year. We can recall the classic ‘Side-Eyeing Chloe’ meme as an NFT sold for 25 ETH or $75,000 in September 2021. In addition, the popular ‘Coffin Dance’ video was also auctioned on Foundation last year.
This year, memes are still staying on Web3. Even 9GAG, a longtime source of memes and other daily life comedies, announced their first-ever NFT project aptly named Memeland.
