After much anticipation, the Bored Ape Yacht Club’s (BAYC) Otherside metaverse is all set to drop this week. Otherside will officially launch this Saturday, April 30 at 12 pm ET, Otherside announced on its Twitter page this weekend.
Otherside metaverse is dropping this Saturday! Credit: Yuga LabsYuga Labs has also launched Otherside’s official Discord server—a move that broke Discord, to say the least. Already, the server boasts nearly 138,000 members and it’s still hard to get in! So, what exactly is Otherside? And how can you get in?BAYC’s Otherside metaverse: What we know so farYuga Labs, BAYC’s parent company, dropped a teaser for Otherside, in mid-March. Since then, crypto Twitter has been abuzz with chatter about Otherside and what all it could entail. The teaser featured an ape in flip-flops and a hat, smoking a cigarette. He then fishes a potion out of the water and consumes it, which sends him to the “Otherside”—a place filled with lava and submarines. Moreover, there were several other NFT avatars inside the submarine. Including, a CryptoPunk, a World of Women avatar, a Mutant Ape, and a Cool Cat. Speculations are now rife that the metaverse will support several other NFT collections. Around the same time, Yuga Labs announced its partnership with Animoca Brands to build the metaverse. However, the two companies stated that the first phase of the project will require a KYC verification. Needless to say, the announcement created an uproar on Twitter. But, here’s the deal. Otherside has announced that only those whose KYC was approved on their announcement website can participate in the upcoming mint. However, existing BAYC and MAYC holders can claim the NFT for up to 21 days after the auction and don’t need to be KYC-approved. That said, they too will need to be KYC-verified to mint during the auction. Land and Kodas? Speculations are on the rise
Is Yuga Labs dropping Kodas this weekend?Furthermore, while Otherside did not mention this, many BAYC holders believe that the mint could be for “Kodas”. Apparently, Kodas even made an appearance in the teaser. A tiny, alien-looking avatar, resembling Otherside’s logo, is what carried the ape to the Otherside. “OK but what the fuck is a Koda,” BAYC even tweeted early this week. Well, we’ll find out this Saturday! On the other hand, several rumours hint at a possible metaverse land sale. On April 20, Twitter user, renegademaster claimed they had information about the Yuga Labs land sale from a “reliable source”. According to them, the sale will be a Dutch auction starting at 600 $APE. Besides, while land will be airdropped to BAYC and MAYC holders, CryptoPunks, Meebits, Cool Cats, Nounz, WoW, and Toadz would get automatic whitelist spots.Later, they shared that there will likely be a total supply of 100k land, with 55k maximum supply for public mint. They also changed the auction starting bid to 300 $APE.On similar lines, NFTBeliever, on April 27, shared screenshots of a “leaked land contract” on testnet. “So far everything is playing out similar to what that contract showed. All ape coin and KYC required for some of the mints.”
Speculations are now rife about a possible Otherside land sale this weekend. They too said that there will be a 100k supply, with each address having a limit of 45 mints. Besides, a maximum of 20 mints are allowed per transaction. Apparently, during the dutch auction testing, they started at around 300 $APE.However, Yuga Labs has not made any announcements in this regard. At this point, any information on a land sale or the kodas NFT drop is mere speculation. But, if the auction is indeed for Otherside land, given the project’s history of utilities, the land NFTs could offer plenty of future benefits.Things to keep in mind for the upcoming mintApart from KYC verification, another important point to note about the upcoming mint is that it will be exclusively in ApeCoin. Nonetheless, you will also need some ETH to pay for gas fees. The mint will be a Dutch auction, meaning, the ApeCoin price will decline over time. The project will announce the starting price of the auction later this week.Additionally, Otherside will lock up all ApeCoin earned from the auction for one year. In other words, the coins won’t be used to vote in the ApeCoin DAO either. The mint will go live on the Otherside website. On Saturday morning, you can pre-approve your KYC verified wallet on this site. This way, the smart contract will use your ApeCoin to mint during the auction.“BAYC/MAYC holders do not need to approve their wallets to claim — only to mint during the auction,” OthersideMeta tweeted. “You don’t have to pre-approve early — you can approve your wallet after the launch at 12pm ET, but doing it a few hours earlier will save you time and gas fees.” Remember, there won’t be any surprise or pre-sales or giveaways. With scams on the rise, make sure to follow the updates only from the official pages of Otherside. It’s safe to say that the Otherside metaverse is the most anticipated drop this year.
